Nobdody’s Guru — The Full Balaclava Built for Winter Paddling and Mountain Use

If the Soli is the cold-water paddling hat, the Guru is the full-winter solution.

A balaclava that covers the full face, combined with Nobdody’s signature flat brim — and designed to work both on the water and in the mountains. The Guru is Nobdody’s latest product, available since Fall 2024 in one colorway and three sizes.

The Brand Behind It

Nobdody’s is a waterwear brand based in White Salmon, Washington — on the edge of the Columbia River Gorge, where the White Salmon River and Little White Salmon River flow into the Columbia. Known to whitewater paddlers worldwide.

Co-founders Sam and Sarina are both dedicated whitewater kayakers. The brand started from a problem encountered on a Grand Canyon kayak expedition: skull caps kept heads warm but blocked no sun; layering a brimmed cap under a skull cap under a helmet was impossible. The Soli solved that problem. The Guru extends the concept into full-winter and mountain conditions.

The first 12 prototypes were sewn on Sarina’s home sewing machine. Production-ready versions came together with manufacturing support from Immersion Research (IR) — the whitewater apparel company based across the Columbia in Hood River.

What Is the Guru?

The Guru is Nobdody’s fuzzy rubber full balaclava with a flat brim — designed for cold-season paddling and mountain sports from autumn through deep winter.

Where the Soli is a skull cap, the Guru covers the full face. One colorway, three sizes.

Key Features

Fuzzy rubber construction Different from the Soli’s natural rubber, the Guru uses fuzzy rubber — a material with less stretch than neoprene, which is why the Guru comes in three sizes rather than the Soli’s two. Size accurately for the right fit.

Full balaclava structure Covers the entire face, protecting against cold wind and sun in sub-zero conditions. More coverage and warmth than the Soli — designed for the coldest conditions.

Flat brim Nobdody’s signature design element. Protects against sun and snow, and functions under a helmet without interference.

Helmet and beanie compatible Fits comfortably under a paddle helmet, ski helmet, or a beanie. Also works as a standalone piece.

Water and mountain use Conceived from a paddling background, but explicitly designed for skiing and snowboarding as well — Nobdody’s original crossover design between paddle sports and mountain sports.

Sizing

Measure your head circumference above the ears.

SizeReference circumference
S/M56.5cm
M/L58cm
L/XL59.5cm

Fuzzy rubber has less stretch than neoprene, which is why the Guru uses three sizes instead of the Soli’s two. The sizing is calibrated to helmet fit, same as the Soli.

If you’re unsure which size to choose, send us:

  • Your helmet brand, model, and size (e.g. Sweet Protection Wanderer M/L)
  • How your helmet fits without a hat underneath (snug or with some room)

For cool-season river paddling, the Soli is the natural choice. For deep winter, sub-zero conditions, or use that includes skiing and snowboarding, the Guru covers more ground.
