Alpacka Raft Refuge — Size & Fit Guide

The Core Principle: Just Fit, Not Comfort Fit

The Refuge is a maneuverability-focused model. That means just fit is the baseline — not generous fit, not comfortable roominess. Sizing up reduces responsiveness, and on a boat designed around agility, that tradeoff matters.

Height Guidelines

These are general guidelines; inseam length and torso length also affect actual fit:

Smaller build → size down or smallest available size. Average build → just fit, standard size. Heavier gear load expected → consider one size up.

When in doubt, err toward snug over spacious.

What Happens When the Fit Is Wrong

Poor fit on a whitewater boat has real consequences: thigh brace contact becomes unreliable; center of gravity shifts unpredictably; edge control weakens; fatigue accumulates faster over extended sessions. On technical whitewater, all of these matter.

⚠️ Critical Note for Custom Lab Orders

The Refuge is currently a Custom Lab order-only model. This means the order cannot be changed or revised after placement. Unlike standard stock models where you can return and exchange, Custom Lab orders are built to specification — final.

Pre-order sizing consultation is strongly recommended. If you have any uncertainty about your size, please contact the shop before ordering.

Summary

The Refuge rewards connection over comfort. Size it to fit your body, not to give yourself room. And given that the Custom Lab process is irreversible, take the time to get the size right before submitting your order.
