“I want a two-person packraft — which model should I get?”
The Forager and Rendezvous are both multi-person AlpackaRaft models, but they’re built around completely different priorities. “Both can carry two people” is true. “Both work the same way” is not.
This article compares the two boats across paddling style, water compatibility, and use cases to help you decide which one fits.
Note: The Tango has been discontinued. The Forager and Rendezvous are the two current multi-person options in the AlpackaRaft lineup.
How the Two Boats Differ — In One Line Each
Forager: Maximum versatility. Families, hunting, whitewater — one boat that covers everything.
Rendezvous: Fishing and flatwater, done well. Elevated seating, comfortable two-adult paddling, optimized for casting.
These aren’t competing for the same buyer. The question is which use case describes you.

Paddling Style
Forager
Supports both kayak style (single paddler at the stern with a double-blade paddle) and canoe style (two paddlers fore and aft with single-blade paddles). The Aqua Bound Shred Apart paddle — co-developed with AlpackaRaft — converts between the two configurations, making style switching straightforward.
Rendezvous
Designed for two adults to paddle together in comfortable seated positions. The elevated seat height makes it well-suited for casting — the bow paddler can fish while the stern paddler handles propulsion. Flatwater efficiency and comfort are the priorities.
Water Compatibility
The most important practical difference between these two boats is where they can go.
| Water type | Forager | Rendezvous |
|---|---|---|
| Lake and flatwater | ◎ | ◎ |
| Lightwater (gentle current) | ◎ | ○ |
| Class I–II (light riffles) | ◎ | △ |
| Class III–IV (whitewater) | ◎ (two experienced paddlers) | × |
The Forager’s self-bailing floor automatically drains water that enters the cockpit — this is what makes whitewater use possible. The Rendezvous is built for flatwater to lightwater and should stay in those conditions.
Use Case Breakdown
Fishing
Rendezvous is the better choice.
Elevated seating for a high casting position, comfortable two-adult capacity, stable flatwater handling — all of it is designed around fishing. The Forager works for drift fishing, but for long sessions focused purely on fishing, the Rendezvous is more comfortable.
Family flatwater trips
Forager is the better choice.
With two adults plus kids and pets, the Forager’s load capacity and cockpit size give you room to work with. The Rendezvous is comfortable for two adults on longer trips, but isn’t designed with children and pets as part of the picture.
Two-adult flatwater touring (longer distances)
Rendezvous is the better match.
When the goal is relaxed, comfortable paddling over longer flatwater distances with two adults, the Rendezvous delivers the better seat and the better experience. The Forager handles this use case, but it’s optimized for more than this.
Whitewater
Forager only.
The Rendezvous is not suitable for whitewater. If two-person Class III+ paddling is part of the plan, the Forager is the only current option.
Hunting
Forager only.
The Rendezvous isn’t designed for hunting. Large game transport, heavy loads, whitewater sections in remote terrain — these all point to the Forager.
Who Each Boat Is Right For
Forager — right for you if:
- You want the whole family (two adults, kids, and a dog) in one boat
- You want whitewater capability
- You’re planning backcountry hunting or large game transport
- You want one boat that handles a wide range of conditions
- You’re planning multi-person backcountry trips
Rendezvous — right for you if:

- You want elevated seating and a high casting position
- Whitewater is not part of your plan
- Hunting is not part of your plan
Decision Framework
Do you plan to paddle whitewater? → Yes: Forager → No: continue
Do you need hunting capability or large load transport? → Yes: Forager → No: continue
Is fishing (fly fishing or drift fishing) your primary purpose? → Yes: Rendezvous → No: continue
Do you want to carry children, multiple pets, or a full family? → Yes: Forager → No: Rendezvous (comfortable two-adult flatwater touring)
Summary
| Forager | Rendezvous | |
|---|---|---|
| In one line | The all-purpose multi-person boat | Fishing and flatwater, done right |
| Choose if | You want versatility, whitewater, or hunting | You want fishing or comfortable flat touring |
| Not suited for | Pure flatwater with no other use cases | Whitewater, hunting |
If your use is clearly fishing and flatwater, the Rendezvous delivers a better experience for that purpose. If your use is broader — or likely to expand — the Forager’s versatility provides more long-term value.
