Denver-based blog Understaffed Packraft reviewed the ultralight bow bag dry bag from Mindset Packs. At 3.6 ounces, it’s positioned as a bow bag that manages to be both waterproof and easy to access.

The tradeoff between fully waterproof and lightweight isn’t unique to bow bags — it runs through packraft gear in general. A hands-on review showing a bag that protects a camera worth thousands of dollars while still opening in seconds is genuinely useful when weighing gear choices.

Fully Waterproof, or Light?

The author had long been stuck choosing between bags that were fully waterproof but heavy, or light but leaky. This Mindset Packs bow bag is built from Challenge Sailcloth EPLX200 fabric and Ultra tape, with a plastic rim stiffener and an oversized grab handle. It runs $55.

Field-Tested on a 5-Day Mexico Expedition

On a 5-day packrafting trip in Veracruz, the bag stayed fully dry even after roughly a minute of complete submersion. It protected gear including a camera worth thousands of dollars, with seams that never got damp. Being able to open and close it in seconds means it can keep up with quick decisions on the water. It’s compatible with bow bag setups from Mindset, Sockdolager, and Alpacka alike. The author concluded it’ll be standard kit on future river runs.
