Packrafting + Skiing!!

ガイドツアー

🇯🇵 日本語 | 🇺🇸 English

There’s a short window in Hokkaido’s spring season when the snowpack and snowmelt line up just right — and when they do, a very particular kind of adventure becomes possible.

Ski shoes (snowshoes) on the approach to the river. Packraft on the way back.

This is exactly that kind of trip.

I joined Niseko Ukka (@niseko_ukka) on one of their custom tour routes — a 4-hour adventure that threads together a snow field hike through the remaining spring snow and a downstream packraft run when the meltwater is running well. The balance between snow depth and water volume that makes this possible is brief and seasonal. When it comes together, it’s something you can’t replicate any other time of year.

Snow and river — connected by a single line through the landscape. No matter how many times I experience this combination, it never gets old.

Niseko Ukka’s New Subscription Plan

Starting this season, Niseko Ukka has introduced a subscription plan for their packraft tours. It’s worth checking out if you’re in any of these situations:

Wanting to start river packrafting but not sure where to begin. You’ve got a packraft but no paddling partners — and getting out on the river for practice has been difficult. You can run rivers on your own, but want to go deeper into river reading, paddling technique, and understanding water. You want to explore new rivers by packraft. You want to learn rescue skills with other packrafters.

If any of those sound familiar, the subscription plan might be exactly what you’re looking for.
