Packraft + α.
When I turned around after reaching the top of the climb, there it was — Mount Yotei, dressed in snow.
Legs heavy. Breath short. And then, that view.
The contrast of white snow against open sky. The overwhelming presence of a lone volcanic peak standing apart from everything else. It’s exactly the kind of scene that makes moving through the landscape by packraft and snowshoe feel like something worth doing — because it takes you to places you simply cannot reach any other way.
That, more than anything, is the luxury of this kind of travel.
