Alpacka Raft’s blog featured a multi-day packraft trip through the red-rock canyon country around Escalante, on Utah’s Lake Powell. The trip was made by Jeremiah Watt and friends.
Packrafting tends to get talked about in the context of rivers — or, on the lighter end, as a relaxed way to float around a lake. Trip reports on serious flatwater lake paddling by packraft are still rare to come across in Japan, so anyone curious about lake packrafting should read Alpacka’s original post for themselves.
Towering Walls, Hidden Side Canyons
The route wound past towering sandstone walls, hidden side canyons, and stretches of open water. The group paddled mostly Chinooks — their load capacity and efficiency suited hauling multiple days’ worth of gear over long distances.
Freedom Away From the Road
Sunrise reflected on the water, wide desert vistas, remote campsites cut off from roads and boathouses and the rest of human activity. Set in the American Southwest, it’s a record of what a packraft trip can look like out here.
