A logistics note for the Kushiro River Expedition. This one’s about sourcing a gas cartridge once on the ground.
Normally Unnecessary, But Not This Time
On the expedition itself, guide Tomoki Kokubun brings the stove, so participants don’t need to carry their own gas cartridge. This time, though, there are two nights of camping at Toro and either Sunayu or the Wakoto Peninsula before joining the main group. Since the trip starts with a flight, a gas cartridge can’t go in checked or carry-on luggage, which means sourcing one locally becomes necessary.
Available at Nippon Rent-A-Car, Kushiro Airport
As it turns out, Nippon Rent-A-Car sells gas cartridges over the counter at several of its Hokkaido locations, including the branch in front of Kushiro Airport. Stock isn’t guaranteed, so calling ahead to confirm availability is worth doing if certainty matters.
