Alaska Packraft School has announced that the second edition of The Alaska Packraft Guidebook, written by Jule Harle, is set for summer 2027. The first edition is sold out, and the second is now in progress.
The sheer depth of information here is exactly what you’d expect from Alaska Packraft School. Since packrafting traces its origins to Alaska, this is a field that any packrafter who’s gone deep into the sport will find hard to ignore. For on-the-ground information, the surest route is a local guide — or booking one directly.
What Was in the First Edition
The first edition ran 350 pages, covering more than 70 rivers across nine regions, Class I through IV. It included access information — hiking approaches and flight-in options — along with water-level data and both day-trip and overnight routes.
Until the Second Edition Arrives
Until the second edition is finished, most of the guidebook’s content — minus maps and photos — is available through the Alaska River Forums, run by Alaska Packraft School. Updates on the second edition go out through their newsletter (alaskapackraftschool@gmail.com).
