Alpacka Raft founder Sheri has been pursuing the convergence of packraft and sea kayak for more than 15 years. It is, by a significant margin, the longest development period of any model in Alpacka Raft’s history.

Good ideas came and went. Prototypes were built, tested, pushed into dead ends, and abandoned. New approaches emerged. The central question never changed: What would a boat need to be in order to genuinely function as a sea kayak — and still make sense as a packraft?

The Aleutian is the answer to that question.

What the Aleutian Is

The Aleutian delivers cruising performance and tracking stability that comes as close to a hardshell sea kayak as any inflatable has managed — while losing none of the core advantages that make packrafts worth carrying in the first place: light weight and the ability to pack down and go anywhere.

A sea kayak you can carry on your back into the backcountry. A boat capable of coastal touring, lake crossings, and long-distance open-water paddling. Not simply a “faster packraft” or a “bigger packraft” — but something genuinely closer in character to a sea kayak.

More than 15 years of iteration brought this model into existence. The quality of the result — the sense that the wait was entirely worth it — becomes clear the moment you handle the boat.
