Denver-based blog Understaffed Packraft published an ultralight gear list built for a warm-water expedition in Mexico’s Veracruz state. It’s their standard UL rafting kit, tuned for warm water.
A post that lays out an entire kit, brand names and reasoning included, is genuinely useful reference material for anyone putting together their own expedition.
On-Water Gear and Paddling Kit
The wetsuit layer pairs a Kokatat Hydrus Meridian drysuit with NRS Splash tops and bottoms, plus 1.5–2mm neoprene pieces underneath. The boat is an Alpacka Raft Wolverine, the paddle a 4-piece Werner Strike, the PFD an Astral YTV, and the helmet a WRSI. A repair kit comes along, plus both a manual Pack-A-Pump and an electric Flextail pump.
Camp Gear and Electronics
Shelter is a Tarptent Aeon Li, sleep system a Katabatic Flex 22 with a Thermarest NeoAir pad. Cooking runs on an MSR Pocket Rocket with a TOAKS titanium pot. Electronics include a GoPro 12, a Garmin InReach satellite communicator, several Anker battery packs, and a Black Diamond headlamp.
