Denver-based blog Understaffed Packraft released a film, Jalco Flow, set in Jalcomulco, in Mexico’s Veracruz state. The setting is the Río Antigua, known as one of the most technical whitewater rivers in North America.
Packrafting tends to get discussed as a North American thing, so it’s worth knowing there’s a technically-minded whitewater scene in Mexico too. Jalcomulco is a place name worth remembering.
Local Guides Lead the Way
The film doesn’t name the packrafters involved specifically, but a number of guides took part, including Aisha Lyra Jalal. The post describes stepping into unfamiliar water, though it doesn’t go into detail on the difficulty or flow of the rapids themselves.
