H2O Adventure Guide Club held a JSPA-certified Safety & Rescue Program (SRP) training session in Onuma, near Hakodate. The goal: build the safety knowledge, basic paddling skills, and rescue fundamentals needed to enjoy time on the water with confidence.

Classroom in the Morning, Water in the Afternoon

The morning classroom session took place at the Onuma International Seminar House, covering four pillars — weather, field conditions, paddling technique, and gear — through discussion with participants on why hazards arise and how to prepare for them ahead of time. In the afternoon, the group moved to the water at Onuma, reviewing basic paddling technique before working through self-rescue (re-boarding) and group rescue in practice.

Classroom Knowledge, Put Into the Body

According to the instructor, participants engaged enthusiastically with both questions and hands-on practice, and the group rescue drills in particular made the value of the training tangible. The instructor noted that the safety awareness built in the classroom carried through and settled into the body during the practical session.
