A $20 Storage Bag — Understaffed Packraft’s DIY Guide

Denver-based blog Understaffed Packraft published a DIY guide to building your own internal storage bags for packrafting, for about $20. Nicknamed “Twinkies,” the bags weigh 8 ounces a pair.

Trying to build it yourself before buying something off the shelf — that’s packraft DIY culture in a nutshell. We’ve covered a DIY grab loop install on this site before, and this kind of small-accessory build is worth the same approach.

What the Bags Are For

The goal is to keep gear secured inside the boat, stop it from shifting around, protect the boat’s interior, and add an extra layer of waterproofing. For the build itself, the post points to a resource published by Landon Sawaya.

A Note on Use

The post is explicit that these bags don’t count as the “secondary chambers” required under certain permits. They’re meant for calm rivers, Class III and under.
