フィールドノート屈斜路湖という名前——喉の奥から流れ出す口
屈斜路湖の名はアイヌ語の「クッチャラ」=喉口に由来し、湖の水が流れ出す口を意味する。コタン名「クッチャロ」に和人が字を当てたもの。松浦武四郎が1859年に記録した湖畔のコタンの風景、語源のはっきりしない隣の摩周湖との対比まで。
